Why does my child need to get vaccinated so young? Can’t I wait until he’s a little older?

Children need vaccinations when they’re very young for a simple reason: They are at high risk for serious diseases. Most dangerous cases of whooping cough and Hib happen in children under age 1. Waiting until your child is older isn’t safe.

What if my child starts getting vaccinations late?

That’s okay, it’s not too late. Your child will need “catch-up” vaccinations to get back on track. Some vaccinations can be given at any age. Your child can get the shots and still develop immunity. If you think that your child may be behind on his or her shots, call your doctor.

At what age can my child stop getting vaccinations?

Vaccinations aren’t just for young children. Older kids, teens, and adults need vaccinations, too.

Are vaccines expensive?

They don’t have to be. If you have health insurance, find out if vaccines are covered during healthcare visits. Vaccines are generally free at public health clinics. The “Vaccines for Children” (VFC) program may pay for your child’s vaccinations. Check with your doctor.
