Your doctor may prescribe pills to treat your skin infection. Pills are used to help treat an infection that covers a larger area of skin and to help keep the infection from spreading. If your doctor prescribes pills, always finish the whole bottle.

In some cases, if a very strong dose is needed, a doctor can give you a shot of a drug.

People who have severe infections may need to be in the hospital. They might receive treatment through a vein, so that the drugs can go directly into the bloodstream.
