There’s no test for Restless Legs Syndrome. Your doctor will check your general health. This includes your diet, exercise habits, and symptoms.

Your doctor needs to make sure that something else isn’t causing your symptoms. So, he or she may also do some lab tests. (For women, these may include a pregnancy test.) That’s because Restless Legs Syndrome symptoms can look like some symptoms also found in:

  • Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • Leg cramps
  • Pregnancy

Your doctor may test the iron levels in your blood. Restless Legs Syndrome is more common in people with low iron levels.

A real medical condition that you don’t know you have

Many people with Restless Legs Syndrome know that they have a real medical condition, but don’t know what it’s called. But they do know how it feels.

Being able to clearly describe your symptoms can help your doctor make the right diagnosis. That’s why you need to understand your symptoms.

Learn about the condition. Talk with your doctor. Fill out a Symptom Diary and Sleep Diary. Take them to your next visit. These will help your doctor understand your symptoms.
