Some men don’t want help for an enlarged prostate because they are nervous about sexual side effects. But these problems are not as common as you may think.

Sometimes, treatment can cause problems with erections and ejaculation. But not treating an enlarged prostate can lead to the same risk of sexual problems, especially erectile dysfunction. In fact, treatment for enlarged prostate may help with sexual side effects, at least in the long run.

Sexual side effects have complex causes. Physical issues and feelings sometimes play a role. Try to be open with your partner about any sexual problems. Having your partner’s support can help a lot.

If you’re having sexual problems, talk with your doctor. Tell him or her your concerns. Don’t avoid getting help because you’re nervous or embarrassed.
