Most people with osteoarthritis find that it changes their life in some way. It can affect your activities, your job, and even your relationships.

At home, climbing stairs, reaching top shelves, and even bathing may be hard. If your fingers are stiff, starting the car can be hard. Unlocking the door and opening jars may be tough. And, travel may seem like more trouble than it’s worth.

But there are things you can do to make it easier to live with your condition. Living a healthy lifestyle is one of them. This includes keeping your weight down, getting exercise, and staying positive. Your doctor can help you create weight and exercise plans.

Using adaptive aids is another. These can make many daily tasks easier. Canes and walkers, for instance, can keep you mobile. Small appliances in the kitchen, like electric can openers, are easy on hands.

And, you can learn from others who live with osteoarthritis. Many practical tips can help make your home and workplace safer and hazard-free.
