Your healthcare provider may prescribe migraine medicine to help keep your headaches under control. There are two types of prescription medicines for migraines:

Some people may need to use both preventive and acute treatments. Your healthcare provider will help you decide which is best for you. He or she will consider:

  • How often and how severe your attacks are

  • How much they affect your life

  • Other medical conditions you have

Your healthcare provider may also prescribe medicine for nausea, if your migraines upset your stomach.
