“The best encouragement I would give someone who just found out they had hypertension is to not panic, and to know that this is definitely something that you can live with.

“I found that knowing that there were other people in my family who have high blood pressure, and now that they were doing okay on medication that helped them feel better, that that meant that I would probably feel better, too.

“And also, I would encourage someone to take their medication on a regular basis, ‘cause that is something they can control, and that way they don’t have to feel out of control with this disease.”
