You may need more than one medicine to treat your high blood pressure. If so, plan a schedule. Your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist can help you fill in your medicine schedule. Theres space in the 1on1health Your Next Appointment form (PDF Format).
Keep the schedule handy. Put copies where youre likely to be when its time for your medicine (by the TV, on your desk at work, in the kitchen). Give copies to friends and family.
Here are some other ways to help you remember to take your medicine:
- Try to take medicine at the same time you do other daily activities (like brushing your teeth or watching the news).
- Set an alarm clock or timer to ring when its time for your medicine.
- Use a pillbox with sections for different times of the day. Some pillboxes even have a built-in alarm clock.
- Make sure you dont run out of medicine. Mark your calendar several days or a week before its time for refills. You dont want to miss a dose. Planning is important!
When in doubt, ask
Not sure when to take your medicines? Or, if you should take them with food or on an empty stomach? Ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Its important to know what youre taking, why youre taking it, and how you should take it. Know the possible side effects of any medicine you start. Watch for the side effects during the first weeks of treatment. Your doctor or pharmacist can tell you about side effects.
