Make healthy food choices a habit. Eating well will soon seem like second nature. And, it can be easy and delicious.

Share these tips with your friends and family. It’s easier to cook healthy meals and stick to your diet plan if the whole family shares. Besides, eating better is good for everyone.

If you already have a healthy diet, great work.

Good nutrition is important

Eating right is one important way to take control of your health. For example:

  • Cutting salty foods from your diet may help lower your blood pressure. About half the people with high blood pressure are sensitive to salt in their food. It raises their blood pressure.

  • Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, and fewer fatty foods. This can help you with your weight.

  • Eat more fiber. Fiber is in fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

  • The DASH sample eating plan can help keep blood pressure down. The menus are rich in vitamins and minerals that can help with blood pressure.

  • Eating healthy foods will give you more energy.

Eating right can mean rethinking how you shop for food, cook, and eat out. If you have questions about your diet, or want a diet plan, talk with your doctor. He or she may refer you to a dietitian.
