Carol-Lee:
“It can be really difficult and scary to tell a prospective intimate partner that I have genital herpes.

“Everybody, no matter who we are, we fear rejection. And, I have found that the best way for me to do it is to say, how much do you know about genital herpes? And, the person usually will think, gee. As one person said, ‘Well, not very much, but I bet I’m gonna find out more!’

“Yes, you are because it’s something... there’s so many people that have it and so many people that do not know, it should be a question that everyone asks before becoming intimate with someone else.

“Having literature on hand to share with that person is very helpful. As a former teacher, it’s really easy for me to go into the education mode because there’s so much education to be done.”
