“The biggest myth surrounding herpes is that not very many people have it and I think that is the one that people need to know, they need to hear, and they need to understand is that people not having herpes is a myth.
“There’s a lot of people out there who have herpes. There’s a lot of people living with herpes. A lot of people are living every day of their life normally as everyone else with herpes, and it’s there and it’s not that big of a deal. You know, it can seem like your world is crashing down on you when you’re first diagnosed with having herpes.
“But, you know, having lived with it for over 10 years, herpes is just one of those things that it’s a part of me; part of who I am, but it’s not who I am. I’m not herpes. I’m Shannon and that I think is the biggest thing.”
