These medicines help stop the body from reacting to certain hormones that affect the heart and blood flow. They widen blood vessels. They may help to:
- Lower your risk of hospital stay due to heart failure.
- Improve your chances of living longer.
- Make you feel better.
Some things to watch for:
- Feeling dizzy or light-headed. If it keeps up, call your doctor.
- Tongue or facial swelling, and/or skin rash with or without itching. Dont try to treat this yourself. Call your doctor right away.
- Confusion; heartbeat that skips; nervousness; numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips; weakness or heaviness of the legs. These can be signs of too much potassium in your body. Call your doctor right away.
- Cough. If this keeps up or is severe, call your doctor.
Other choices
There is a second type of medicine that lets blood flow more freely. You may be placed on either medicine.
Some things to watch for:
- Allergic reactions like trouble breathing; closed throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives
- Diarrhea or upset stomach
- Dizziness or headache
- Muscle pain or cramps
