If you find yourself taking care of someone with heart failure, you may not know where to begin.
It may help you to ask:
How much help does my loved one need?
How much help can I give?
How many hours am I there for my loved one?
Can I give physical support? Or, am I better at organizing or giving emotional support?
Do I know other people who can help?
Make a “can-do” list
Knowing your own strengths and weaknesses can help you plan. Start by making a chart or list that includes the tasks you can do and those that may need outside help.
Heres what a typical list might look like:
I am strong enough for:
Daily chores (meals, driving, housework)
Heavy chores (laundry, yard work)
Supporting my loved one in and out of the shower/bath
Helping in and out of bed/car
Dressing and grooming
Other people/community resources that can help with physical tasks:
(list with phone numbers and contact names)
I feel comfortable giving emotional support: Yes No
Other people who can help, even if just by phone:
