Even though millions of people have depression, it can make you feel alone. That’s why many people find it helpful to join a support group.

Whether they meet in person or online, support groups offer a place where people can talk about depression. Support groups don’t take the place of counseling or medical care. They are also different from group counseling, since they aren’t led by a mental health professional.

Ask your doctor or counselor for the names of support groups in your area. Many organizations listed on the Resources page offer support groups.
