Social anxiety disorder is also called “social phobia.” You may be afraid to date, eat out, go to parties, or speak in public, for example.

Common symptoms

Several symptoms go along with social anxiety disorder. These can include:

  • Strong feelings of fear and nervousness in social situations or when the spotlight is on you

  • Avoiding social settings

  • Blushing

  • Sweating

  • Pounding heart

  • Shaky voice

  • Trembling

  • Nausea

  • Diarrhea
