There are several types of anxiety disorders. Each has different symptoms. Any of them can disrupt your life.

You can have more than one type of anxiety disorder at a time. You can also have an anxiety disorder with another mental-health problem, like depression or substance abuse.

The main types of anxiety disorders are:

Anxiety disorder:Symptoms include:
Social anxiety disorderStrong feelings of fear or nervousness in social situations.
Panic disorderSudden feelings of strong fear and dread that happen without any cause. These are called panic attacks.
Generalized anxiety disorderFeeling very worried and anxious every day for at least six months.
Obsessive compulsive disorderFrequent, often disturbing, thoughts that can lead to ways of acting (called compulsions) that you can’t seem to stop or control.
Posttraumatic stress disorderVivid, scary memories, and nightmares of a traumatic event.
PhobiasExtreme fear of things or situations that pose little or no real danger.
