Seasonal nasal allergy symptoms include:

  • Repeated sneezing

  • Runny nose (usually a thin, clear liquid)

  • Stuffy nose

  • Itchy nose, ears, eyes, and throat

  • Watery eyes

You may know seasonal allergies as “hay fever.” The symptoms occur or get worse when pollen is in the air. Pollen is a fine powder made by plants. These include weeds, grasses, and trees. Each plant gives off its pollen at about the same time each year. When a pollen you’re allergic to is in the air, you can get nasal symptoms.

You may be able to identify your allergens based on when your symptoms start. Seasonal allergies tend to happen in the fall and spring. They are often caused by outdoor substances that trigger your symptoms.

Mold can also cause seasonal allergies.

Year-round allergy symptoms include:

  • A very blocked-up, stuffy nose

  • Nasal fluid that drips down the front of the nose

  • A runny nose

  • Sneezing

Some allergens are in the air all the time. These are usually indoor allergens. They include dust mites (bugs so small that you can’t see them), animal dander (flakes shed from animal skin, hair, or feathers), cockroaches, and mold.
