Animation text:

Your body protects you from things that can make you sick like bacteria and viruses. But, if you have allergies, this defense works too hard. It protects you from things that don’t harm most people. These things are called allergens or allergy triggers.

Allergens include pollen, dust mites, mold, and animal dander.

Here’s how nasal allergies occur:

First, an allergen enters the nose of a person with allergies. This tells your body to attack.

In response, your body produces a substance to help you push the allergen out.

But these substances also cause a stuffy, runny, itchy nose.

A good way to manage nasal allergies is to avoid your triggers. But that may not be enough.

Talk to your doctor about medicines that can relieve your nasal symptoms.
